I is for the White-faced Ibis !

A dark wading bird with a long, down-curved bill, the White-faced Ibis
is a western replacement for the Glossy Ibis. Similar in appearance and
habits, the two species can be distinguished only by slight differences
in coloring of the face and legs.

I always thought of ibises as African birds. This is the first time finding out they are also not only in the US, but out my way! I have never seen one though. Herons and egrets, yes, but no ibises.
ReplyDeleteThe old woman was only reading yesterday about the old Turkish legend that the ibis was one of the first birds that Noah released from the Ark as a symbol of fertility. She was delighted to see this picture.
